The academy was started as an extension to the Dawn of a New day salon because Dawn saw a need for trained groomers in the Ottawa region.
Dawn has been grooming for over 10 years, receiving her basic diploma through Pets Beautiful in Toronto. She then opened her own salon in a doggie day care while also working as a teachers assistant for Canada’s largest grooming school.
When she left Toronto, she moved to Ottawa for a teaching job here (for Ottawa’s largest grooming school) and proceeded to achieve her Master groomer status through I.P.G. in 2003. During the couple of years that she had spent working for the school, she had come to recognize that Ottawa was lacking a quality salon that could offer stylized breed clipping with a pleasant atmosphere and top notch customer service. This was being done in hair salons, but not yet in the pet industry. And so in 2003 Dawn of a New Day was born.
Three years later Dawn had the same revelation of the courses being offered for grooming students. She created a longer, more complete course. Offering the students practical and fuctional operations of the grooming world. Dawn wants them to experience a little bit of the show world, all the way down to how to handle a difficult client with a matted dog.
Dawn truly enjoys teaching and she hopes that any prospective student understands that. Grooming and teaching grooming is what she was born to do.
Dawn of a New Day staffs four employee’s, 2 of us are International Professional Groomer (I.P.G.) Certified Master groomers. Lisa is currently a judge for I.P.G. and Dawn started her competition career with 3 winning awards in the terrier class. Dawn of a New Day’s very first student wrote and passed her I.P.G. 3 group written exams before she was even half way through her course! We strive to achieve the best and we push you to achieve your highest potential.
Stop in for a visit and see while you will enjoy taking our course. We may work hard, but we love what we do, and we have fun doing it.
